I've forgotten how many years it's been since I last wrote a blog,
As the site is being renewed, the blog will be gradually restarted.

---------------------------------------------------
The first part of the renewal is about the "Spur Gear for Sidewinder"
"There are two sizes of spur gears in 1/32 slot cars."
NSR and slot.it Sidewinder spur gears come in two different diameters.
For slot.it, it comes in Φ18mm and Φ19mm, and for NSR it comes in Φ17.5mm and Φ18.5mm.
(Basically the smaller ones are used in the same way)
Why are there two different sizes (diameters) available?
Because different manufacturers use different spur gears.
Scalextric and FLY use Φ19mm (18.5mm) ,
slot.it, NSR, ProSlot, etc. use Φ18mm (17.5mm) .
It can be used in the following ways:
Originally, Φ19mm was the majority, but
Φ18mm has also become common since slot.it started making ProSlot parts.
(By the way, slot.it previously also had a lineup of motor mounts for Φ19mm spur gears.)
"So which one is better?"
However, the sizes that can be used vary by manufacturer,
There is no choice for the user,
Let's summarize the advantages and disadvantages of each.
For larger sizes (FLY and Scalextric),
Since the number of teeth can be increased, a low-geared gear ratio (which prioritizes acceleration and braking) can be chosen.
The advantage is that you can ride with ease even when using large tires, and you don't have to worry about long braking times.
On the other hand, for smaller sizes (slot.it and NSR),
Since the gear size can be made smaller, the tire size that can be used can also be made smaller.
(Obviously,) if the tire is smaller than the gear, it won't touch the road surface. That's why there are more options for tire sizes.
(For this reason, many small cars, such as vintage cars, have inline wheels.)
So that's it.
If you are changing the gear ratio, please select the spur gear that is appropriate for your car (manufacturer).
From the slot.it catalog.
There are more options in the Φ18mm size (left side).
